Napkin math

Five minutes a month does not sound like a crisis. After a year it is an hour. A five-person shop: five hours. A twenty-person shop: twenty.

If you like a bigger napkin: say 20% of about 28 million professional developers run two local apps and lose those five minutes. That is 5.6 million hours a year, or about 2,800 people working full time on “which port is it this time.”

Evans Data puts professional developers near 28 million. SlashData counts about 48 million developers. The 20% is a guess. The 5 minutes is a guess. The ports still swap if you do not name them.
